The Minor in Landscape Architecture affords students an opportunity to develop an awareness of important aspects of the field of landscape architecture as they relate to a student's primary area of focus here at the University of Oregon. Students from areas such as Architecture, Planning, Environmental Studies, Business, Biology, and others have all found compelling connections to their own work and interests within the coursework offered through this program, and the faculty have designed this course of study to recognize and respond to the increasingly interdisciplinary ways of working that are currently employed in today's changing society.
Landscape architecture, as a discipline, draws upon many fields, such as architecture, engineering, biology, ecology, sociology, and more; as a profession, it is highly collaborative with representatives from these same fields, as well as with the members of the communities, cities, and towns within which our projects occur. As the only accredited Landscape Architecture program in the state, we feel that it is imperative that we elevate the understanding of landscape architecture and the principles upon which it is based among non-landscape architects, be they specialists collaborating on a project, or residents of a neighborhood working with a landscape architect on a public park, plaza, or stream corridor. This program is designed to do just that, while also offering students an opportunity to enrich their own course of study in ways that will benefit them both pre- and post-graduation.
A total of 30-32 credits are required for a Minor in Landscape Architecture. The variation in total number of credits is due to the presence of courses with variable credit hours, and to the opportunity for students to take a 6 credit studio course as one of their optional courses. In this case, a student would take 32 credits to receive the Minor. Students not utilizing a studio to meet their Minor requirements take 30 credits to fulfill their Minor requirements. The prerequisites for the courses listed below (where applicable) must be met in order to enroll in that course.
